Amazon Haul is cheap for the same reasons Temu and Shein are cheap: the items are unbranded goods made at scale in China, they ship in bulk to a consolidation facility instead of one parcel at a time, there is no Prime-speed logistics to pay for, and Amazon charges sellers lower fees than on the main site. You are trading speed, branding and reviews for price. Nothing about it is a trick; it is a different supply chain.
Five reasons a $2.99 phone case exists
- Factory-direct sellers. Amazon invited large Chinese manufacturers and traders, mostly in apparel, household goods and small electronics accessories, to list on Haul. There is no US brand, distributor or retail markup in between.
- Consolidated shipping. Inventory sits in facilities abroad; orders are picked and shipped in batches, then handed to a US carrier. Slower, but a fraction of the per-parcel cost of Prime.
- No Prime infrastructure. Haul does not promise two-day delivery, so it does not pay for warehouses near you.
- Lower seller fees and price caps. Reporting on Haul’s seller terms describes commissions well below the main site for many categories and a hard cap of $20 per listing, which forces sellers into the thin-margin, high-volume model.
- No returns to the seller. Returned Haul items are typically liquidated or disposed of in the US rather than shipped back, which keeps seller costs predictable.
Where the items ship from
Mostly China. Haul listings do not show a country of origin, but reporting on the program describes inventory held at Amazon facilities in southern China and sellers who are predominantly China-based. Some items ship from within the US via Amazon fulfillment. The practical effect for you is the one-to-two-week delivery window and the occasional customs delay.
What about tariffs?
The US de minimis exemption, which let shipments under $800 enter duty-free, was suspended for all countries on August 29 2025 and made indefinite in June 2026. Haul does not show a separate import charge; any duty cost is already inside the price you see. Prices on some categories rose after the change, and the under-$3 segment shrank, but the under-$10 selection kept growing.
Does cheap mean unsafe?
Cheap means unverified more than unsafe. The risks are quality and sizing, and for a narrow set of products, safety certifications you cannot confirm. Our rule is to avoid Haul for children’s sleepwear, anything electrical that stays plugged in, car seats, helmets and similar items, and to buy freely in the categories where a miss costs a few dollars. Why is Amazon Haul so cheap?
Factory-direct unbranded goods, bulk consolidated shipping, no Prime-speed logistics, lower seller fees and a $20 price cap that forces a high-volume, thin-margin model.
Where does Amazon Haul ship from?
Mostly from facilities in China, with some items fulfilled from the US. Listings do not display a country of origin.
Are Amazon Haul products fake?
They are mostly unbranded generic products, not counterfeits of brands. Buying brand-name items on Haul is rare; treat anything claiming a famous brand at $5 with suspicion.
Did tariffs make Amazon Haul more expensive?
Some categories rose after the US ended the de minimis exemption in August 2025, but Haul still caps everything at $20 and the under-$10 selection has kept growing.
